An essential figure of roots reggae, Max Romeo is one of those artists who left a lasting mark on the history of Jamaican music and far beyond. Since his early days in 1965, he continuously explored new paths, multiplied collaborations, and carried his singular voice across the world.

Born in 1947 in St Ann, Jamaica, Max Romeo achieved his first international success in 1969 with Wet Dream, recorded under Bunny Lee. His collaboration with Lee “Scratch” Perry led to the creation of two landmark reggae albums: War Inna Babylon (1976) and Reconstruction (1978), now regarded as genre-defining records.

Driven by cult tracks such as Chase the Devil and War Inna Babylon, his music has crossed generations. In 2004, he made a notable return with A Little Time For Jah, recorded at Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston and produced by Clive Hunt, once again highlighting the strength and relevance of his message.

Although he enjoyed returning to Jamaica to cultivate his land and spend time with his family, Max Romeo never truly stepped away from the stage, sharing—until his final years—an energy and sincerity that left a deep impression. His musical legacy continues to live on and inspire.
